Nieto

Luis Nieto was born in Colombia where he studied visual communication and went on to become an art director at various ad agencies. He then moved to France where he decided to focus on film direction and so began his directing career.

Nieto broke on to the scene with his short film, Carlitopolis, crafted at the end of his studies in 2006, winning several awards including the 2006 Adobe Achievement Award and the Audience Award in Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival.

In his subsequent follow-up, Luis executed a series of short films for CANAL + entitled The Prof. Nieto Show – performing quirky experiments with his assistant monkey, Patrick.

His commercial work includes spots for Nike through Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam; Sprint through Goodby, Silverstein & Partners; and Heineken through Berlin Cameron United.

His spot for Nike featuring British sprinter, Nicola Sanders, is a real winner in its artful execution. The mixed-media approach combines stop-motion, CG and live-action in a surrealist rainbow-coloured package. Sprint ‘City Lights’ shows another playful side to Nieto’s work.

His work has been shown at multiple RES Fests and the Creators of Tomorrow series.

He excels as a painter, an animator, a designer, live action director and graphic artist – all of which skills are portrayed throughout his work – proving Nieto is not a one-trick pony but has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.

Nieto joined Stink in March 2011 for representation in UK, Ireland, Asia, Eastern Europe, Russia, Australia and Scandinavia – if he isn’t on your radar yet he will be soon.
